Possible Testing Procedures (Will be Updated)

Introduction:
A CNC router is a system that requires the ability to cut 4’ x 8’ pieces of wood and fold and move for storage. The machine precisely cuts wood using a computer to transmit data.

The material bed, linear motion, motors, and software will be tested. The final testing procedure will test the entire system as a whole.

The designer will test each step in the process.
The testing takes place in the systems lab. The lab’s conditions relate to the outside conditions. On average, the lab’s air contains a high salinity and humidity reading.

Testing Stages:

Testing Type: Exploratory
Testing Stage: Preliminary
State of Solution:
Preconstruction
Condition of Testing Stage:
Lab Environment
Preconstruction
Tools and Equipment Required:
            None
Testing Procedures:
1.      Check design for problems.
2.      Does the design meet required specifications?

Testing Type: Assessment
Testing Stage: Secondary
State of Solution:
Off
Stationary
Condition of Testing Stage:
            Lab Environment
            During Construction
Tools and Equipment Required:
·                            Weights
·                            Scale
Testing Procedures:
1.      Load weights slowly onto material bed.
2.      Add more weights until visible stressing of the machine.
3.      Measure weight on scale.
4.      Record maximum weight.

Testing Type: Assessment
Testing Stage: Tertiary
State of Solution:
            On
            Stationary machine
            Moving rails and bearings
Condition of Testing Stage:
            Lab Environment
            During Construction:
Tools and Equipment Required:
·                           Volt and Amp Tester
·                           Computer
·                           Software (CAD, CAM, Controller)
Testing Procedures:
1.      Connect all electrical equipment.
a.       Wires to motors from computer
b.      Plug in router
c.       Plug in computer
2.      Use Volt and AMP tester to check electrical flow.
3.      Process a design file through all three softwares.
a.       Turn CAD into CAM file
b.      Open CAM in the controller
c.       Submit to machine
4.      Check machine for completion of the design file.

Testing Type: Assessment and Validation
Testing Stage: Quaternary
State of Solution:
            On
            Stationary machine
            Moving rails and bearings
Condition of Testing Stage
            Lab environment
            During construction
Tools and Equipment Required:
·                           Completed CNC machine
·                           Drawing Files
·                           Controller software
Testing Procedures:
1.      Run different drawing files through machine to test for alignment and precision.
2.      If not accurate, tweak setting in controller software to allow for backlash and machine habits.
3.      Test files until the machine produced completely aligned products.
